Who was spied getting a haircut in Manly today?

Here's a little bit of local celebrity spotting....What very successful and local small business identity, whose Real Estate Agency bears his surname....was spied having his tresses trimmed today after recently returning from his much deserved tour of Italy & Turkey with his lovely wife.
And I must say, what good choice he makes by using RUSK in Sydney Road.

Now when it comes to a hairdresser I will be totally honest and admit that I like a hairdresser where you can walk it and say to them, do whatever you think suits me and then walk out happy.  I'm not scared of change or looking different (in the good way, that is) and that's why I can give a big thumbs up to Rusk.  If you need a new hairdresser and like to go for quality, style, service and laughs you can definitely put Sylvie, Mary, Lisa and the team at Rusk on your contacts list.

So here I was with Sylvie this morning and we were having our usual laugh over all things relevant; SATC2, Facebook, Julia Gillards hair colour....well I'm sure you girls all know what I mean... before we got on the topic of hair styles (which was probably a follow on from JG's hair colour topic)

Well of course, you'd expect Sylvie....a seasoned hair professional... to be quite knowledgeable in her opinions of people & how they dress their hair, but even when we had both thrown our best ideas into the ring we were still left wondering.......  Why do women.....invest so much money on clothes, shoes, makeup & jewellery, which they only wear usually a few times.....But when it comes to their hair, which may I add is in most cases with them 24/7, they chose not to invest and go for cheap, shapeless hairstyles.

Now I know some may say...it's only hair, but why is it that we say that?  We all surely subscribe to wanting to look at least a little 'nice'.

What's your say....am I being too harsh on our casual, laid back Aussie approach or should we all just make a little more effort to look nice.

PS....How exciting that we now have a Diva Store in Manly Corso so maybe their modern and cheap range of hair accessories will inspire the masses of pony tailed middle aged Manly women, to throw a nice flower onto their elastic, or put a couple of sequined clips into their fringe for an instant makeover....well you can only hope.

Moscow Circus comes to town

Sitting in a tent in Warriewood Valley, a short drive from Manly, on one of the coldest nights we've had in quite a few years was definitely going to be an adventure but as we were soon to experience, the thoughts of cold soon melted when this amazing show commenced.

WOW WOW WOW...from start to finish...it's absolutely great value for money and the level of international performances paraded before you is nothing like I would have imagined. Even the costumes; they were modern, colourful and of course, sporting the compulsory bling bling.

The Moscow Circus only tours every 2 1/2 years and each tour is filled with new and amazing acts....Australia has a representative this year and when he came on stage, both our kids recognised him immediately as the Diablo twirling boy from last years Australia's Got Talent...we weren't disappointed, he was playing the crowd like a seasoned pro.
When I started to write this article I was thinking that they need rebrand the name circus, but hey, I now see that's just me needing to rebrand my thoughts on what a circus is.....what it definitely is, is a very polished & professional show and well worth the asking price. We were lucky enough to get 4 free tickets but even paying $115 for a family pass would have been well worth it.

It finishes on the 18th July so get your family along and support them....my only disappointment was the crowd was a 1/4 of what they could accommodate and it would be such a shame if shows like these were not longer able to tour to the greater Manly community.

Friday Lunch @ China Beach

Now who would have thought that a restaurant called China Beach has a Chinese style menu....am I the only person that didn't get that connection.

I must admit I wouldn't normally choose to dine out 'Chinese', as I have come to prefer the freshness of Thai or Indonesian, but since we were comfortably seated and a beer ordered before I realised,  I was happy to now just enjoy the catchup with Mike.

It must be about a 6 weeks since China Beach has opened and although a girlfriend had said that the food was great, I must admit, when I've driven by I definitely hadn't been inspired by their all white and what seemed like very cold looking interior decor.  But now I'm inside and seated I've definitely changed my mind on my first impressions and quickly relaxed into the comfy bench seating and view onto Manly Beach....there's nothing like a quick impromptu lunch in between my husband's conference calls.

It's an easy menu with a good collection of foods to suit all tastes and the waiter quick to instruct us that the food is presented so that you can easily share.  We decide on the Sang Choi Bow, Lamb Massaman & Whole Snapper with Ginger & Shallots.  We were impressed with the service from the wait staff as it was friendly and relaxed  and the food service efficient, although we did realise that we over ordered and would next time just stick to two choices of main which would then leave us the option of sharing a dessert, if wanting that little extra.

Great quality food and placing it at the higher end for pricing coming in at $96, so not a cheap option but a great dining experience and well worth the addition to Manly Beachfront.
